Welcome to BraveHeart Boxers of Texas. My name is Danette Pierce and I live in Kingwood, Texas - a suburb of Houston. "I do not have puppies at this time, and do not expect to have puppies any time in the near future."Ricky will not available for breeding until he has passed all his health test. Health test are no to be done till they are 2 or older. - January 7, 2002 Danette Pierce I am a member of : BraveHeart Boxers of Texas got it's name from a precious little puppy named Donnybrook's BraveHeart. BraveHeart or "Mel" (for Mel Gibson who played the character in the movie, BraveHeart) got his name from his being a brave little puppy who fought for his life at birth in December of 1998. I was there & helped his breeder, Don Brookland, try to get him to breathe and just when we thought it was hopeless, he expelled the fluid & took some big breaths and promptly began to nurse. I bonded with the little guy and ended up talking Don and Kaye into letting me get BraveHeart from them. He was pick of the litter. I already had a lovely brindle bitch; a Donnybrook Boxer, Donnybrook's Splash O'Baylea; "Baylea." Both of these kids have a very good pedigree & some notable relatives. These are not my first Boxers though. I started out with a precious little flashy fawn puppy that we named "Pierce's Sweet Sabrina" aka "Sabrina" - after the movie, NOT the witch.. I knew NOTHING about Boxers when she joined our family as pet in 1996; but she quickly convinced us that Boxers were THE only breed. She began obedience classes as soon as she was allowed - 4 months old. She excelled at obedience and to date has been through 4 classes.. The instructor of her last two classes breeds Golden Retrievers and has many Obedience Awards. She has urged me to enter Sabrina in Obedience Trials, however, I'm embarrassed to say that I'm chicken. Maybe sometime in the near future. . . Amazingly enough, although pedigree wasn't an important thing to me when we got her, she ended up having some very notable ancestors also. "Baylea" joined our home May 30, 1998. Don and Kaye Brookland, her breeders, wanted to see her shown and were going to keep her. They tried to get me to choose the little fawn and white pup. I was intent on the little brindle pup. Don finally relented and Baylea went home with us. About a month later, just 2 days after turning 3 months old, she won "Best Puppy" in the Houston Boxer Club's AKC, Sanctioned "B" Match, beating out her little fawn littermate. I was hooked on showing after that. It was my first time in a show ring EVER and I had NO IDEA what was going on - I thought that every time they pointed at us, we'd "lost" I couldn't figure out why we kept getting asked to
go back into the ring. More humiliation I thought. "BraveHeart" joined our home in February of 1999. He has had a problem with ears standing, even though he is gorgeous in every other way. Of course, I'm biased. He made his show debut at the large Astro World Series of Dog Shows at 7 months old, handled by the lovely Jr. Handler Lindsey Schmidt. He did fairly well considering he was a wild thing with wacky ears. He was shown only three times in the fall of 1999 and I have some very nice show win pictures of him - although people see them and ask if I'm showing a natural eared dog. Sadly, I have given up on him being a show dog, even though he has lovely conformation and could *finish* with standing ears. His ears simply won't cooperate after 18 months of taping. They are too long, narrow. He will always be 'bonded' to me in a special way. I'm not a breeder, per se; I want to breed only healthy Boxers who have great temperaments AND will improve the breed. If I can't foresee that in breeding, I will not breed.
I'm in the process of learning every thing I can, and
wish to thank all the wonderful Boxer people out there who have been a
great source of knowledge, help and encouragement to me. I couldn't have
done it without you!
